Why do failed transactions happen?

• Whenever you run a purchase transaction using Gem, you may be trying to buy NFT asset(s) that others are also trying to purchase. As multiple people try to buy the same asset(s), this means that only one individual will end up getting the asset(s).
• There can be some other rare unexpected errors due to some special tokens, NFTs, or other market factors.

Two types of failed transactions:

• A ‘Yellow error’ occurs when the transaction encounters an expected error. This leads to some or no NFTs being bought.
• A ‘Red error’ occurs when the transaction encounters an unexpected error. This leads to no NFTs being bought. If you encounter this type of error, please report it in the Support channel in Discord.

How do refunds work for failed transactions?

• ALL the money that was not used to buy the selected NFTs is ALWAYS returned in the same transaction.
• Depending on your wallet, the refunded amount may be reflected immediately or there can be a delay. MetaMask and Etherscan don’t reflect refunded amount immediately and there could be an extended delay which usually lasts for a few minutes.

How to check if you’ve got a refund:

1. Review the Etherscan trx for your purchase. Click on ‘View your transaction’.

   

2. Under the Overview tab, review the ‘From:’ & ‘Interacted With (To):’ section:

   • In this example ‘Yellow error’ Etherscan trx, one of the NFTs was not purchased. In this case a refund was made and read as follows (also highlighted in the screenshot):

     </aside>

     

     💡 Because one of the NFTs was not purchased, 0.19 Eth was not used and was sent back to the address 0x6f9c8dcf20cd691a1f1944d28b3f63131f67ccb1 which is the address of the Gem user.

   • In this example ‘Red error’, the complete transaction failed and in some cases money may have been used to cover gas fees. If you encounter this type of error, please report it in the Support channel in Discord.
